As Embrace Open Water is preparing the summer season we are re-arranging everything we can based on our learning from the previous two years.
It has been quite a ride and there are lots of ideas to explore and many with the goal of you having fun and enjoying this lifestyle.
So below is the report from our first Open Water Swim Festival that was part of the page for that effect and we are moving it here to the blog as part of this re-arrangement and streamlining what we do.
Also it is the start of a more regular blog as there are many things to talk about and that task has been put aside until now.
I hope you enjoy our changes and let us know if you have any ideas of how can we improve to serve you better.

Our First ever event was a Great Success thanks to you!
Yes. None of what we do at EMBRACE OPEN WATER would have any meaning without your participation and support. The reason we put on a successful event is that you asked for it and many jumped to help make it a reality. Thank you very much.

Our SwimFest was the third Global Swim Series event in Ontario in the past 3 weeks. As you know the Embrace SwimFest was held in GULLIVER’S LAKE a beautiful man-made lake with pretty much ideal conditions! The water temperature was 75F/24C and barely a ripple on the water.
The selection of distances was strategically chosen to offer something different from any other Open Water Race in Ontario.
Special Thanks to James Kowalewski of Element Racing for his awesome support and help. To Mike Morton, Barrie Shepley, Shirley White, Linda and Vic Mahood, Kendra Burton, Jamie and Justin St. Maurice, Rob Kent and LOST Swimming, Catherine Konopelky and Earl, Michelle Visca, Haylie Burton, Chantique Payne and Kim Kurtz. Without your contribution the event just would not have happened.
Also our deepest gratitude to Brenda and the Gulliver’s Lake management team as they provided us with an unbeatable venue for our SwimFest on top of their total support and help to promote the event and trouble shoot all the hiccups we had.
To HitchHiker Lemonade for the donation of prizes.
For those that were not there, The SwimFest offered a group of short races (200m, 400m, 800m) that catered to younger swimmers and less experienced swimmers. Having said that, there were some national and international caliber triathletes like Kristen Marchant, (2 times world champion), and Ben Sayles, an excellent swimmer and pro triathlete often on the podium. If you already checked the results maybe you noticed that the winner for the 200, 400, 800, 1500 and 5k was the same person: Ben Sayles. Quite a display of speed and endurance!
We also offered a 5k and 10k. This was the perfect venue for these longer races as a 1k loop took swimmers around the perimeter of the lake, and around the beautiful fountain in the middle of the lake, before running onshore briefly to visit the feeding table and to be cheered on to their next lap by the excited crowd. It is often hard to find these distances at local races so a few open water swimmers and triathletes took advantage of the opportunity and had great performances.
All in all, it was a great day, especially for an inaugural event. A perfect sunny summer day, great water conditions and a unique choice of races all made for a lot of smiles… and a lot of swimmers eager to sign up for next year!
So thank you!
And if you missed it, stay tuned! We will have a great event next year and we hope you will be part of it.
